Twenty-three acres of Victorian park right in the middle of Buxton, built around the domed Pavilion conservation complex of 1871. Paths loop past a lake, formal beds and a stretch of the River Wye, with a café, gift shop and the town’s tourist information centre inside the Pavilion itself. Free to walk in any time; the Pavilion buildings and events inside sometimes charge. Buxton station is under a kilometre away, making this an easy stop before or after a Peak District walk.
