Roughlee is a small, quiet village on White Hough Water, forever tied to Alice Nutter, the gentlewoman hanged as one of the Pendle witches in 1612 - her bronze statue stands at the roadside here. It makes a peaceful stop on a tour of witch country, with Barley and Newchurch-in-Pendle close by. Nelson station is about 3km to the south-east.
