Sabden lies in a fold below Pendle Hill on the winding road over the Nick o’ Pendle, a favourite drive and viewpoint. It grew as a calico-printing village in the 19th century, and you can still spot old upright ‘vaccary’ stone walls - a medieval way of fencing cattle - on the hillsides around. There’s a village shop, a pub and some fondly told treacle-mine legends. Whalley station is about 5km to the west.
