The great railway viaduct striding across the Calder valley on 48 brick arches is Whalley’s landmark, best seen from the meadows below. In the village itself are the ruins of Whalley Abbey, a Cistercian house open to visitors, and an old parish church with Anglo-Saxon crosses in its yard. Independent shops and cafés line the streets. The station is a short walk out of the centre.
