Stonyhurst is a Jesuit boarding school built around a dramatic 16th-century gatehouse, set above the Ribble valley near Hurst Green. Its formal gardens date from about 1700, with a pair of domed gazebos and long canals and pools reflecting the house. In past summers the college has opened its gardens to visitors and run occasional guided tours of the historic rooms and museum, but no current timetable is published, so check with the college before going; term-time access is limited. The Ribble Way passes close by.
