An ironstone village built round a market place in north Oxfordshire, with a big church tower and, on the eastern edge, the grassy earthworks of Deddington Castle — a Norman ringwork now left as open ground you can walk across for free. A farmers’ market fills the square on the fourth Saturday of the month, and the pubs round it are the reason many people stop.
