Apricot trees still grow trained flat against the honey-coloured house fronts at Aynho, which is how it earned the name the apricot village — a planting habit encouraged by the Cartwrights of Aynhoe Park, whose estate sits above the houses. The old story that villagers paid their rent in apricots is more legend than fact. The village stands on a hill right on the Oxfordshire border, and Kings Sutton station is about 3.5km away.
