Behind an ordinary ironstone village on the Banbury road, the church of St Peter ad Vincula hides some of the finest medieval wall paintings in Oxfordshire. Painted around 1330 in oil on plaster, they still hold strong colour — the murder of Thomas Becket and the death of Thomas of Lancaster among the scenes. The church is usually open in daylight, and worth the detour for them alone.
