Wroxton Abbey is a Jacobean house built on the site of a medieval priory, its grounds remodelled by Capability Brown in the mid-18th century with a serpentine lake and sweeping lawns. For decades it’s served as an American university’s overseas study campus, so the house itself stays closed to visitors — but the park can be walked from dawn to dusk on a public footpath, leading past a Grade II*-listed obelisk with views back over the grounds. Broughton Castle is a few miles south.
