William Kent reworked the garden here around 1738, and Rousham has come down almost unaltered since, one of the few English landscape gardens to escape later fashions. Twenty-five acres above the Cherwell, with Kent’s ponds and cascades in Venus’s Vale, a serpentine rill and classical seats framing views out over the country beyond. Still held by the same family. Heyford station is a short walk across the river. The garden opens every day of the year, ticketed on arrival, though under-15s aren’t admitted and the house is viewable by appointment only.
