Castleton sits at the head of the Hope Valley, hemmed in by hills and ringed by four show caves: Peak Cavern, Speedwell, Treak Cliff and Blue John. Treak Cliff is one of the only places in the world Blue John stone is mined, worked into ornaments sold in the village shops. The Norman keep of Peveril Castle looks down from the crag. Hope station is about 3km east.
