Bamford sits on the Derwent in the Hope Valley, below the gritstone crag of Bamford Edge. It’s the handiest base for the Upper Derwent reservoirs just upstream, whose great stone dam-walls at Derwent and Howden draw walkers and cyclists north. The Yorkshire Bridge Inn stands on the road towards Ladybower. The station is in the village, on the Hope Valley line between Manchester and Sheffield.
