A narrow dry gorge cut into the limestone behind Castleton, Cave Dale climbs straight up from the edge of the village, with the keep of Peveril Castle perched on the cliff above its mouth. There’s no river now — the water runs underground — just a steep walled path onto the plateau. Open access, and one of the better ways up onto the tops from the village.
