One of the four show caves around Castleton, Treak Cliff is prized for its stalactite chambers and for holding some of the finest veins of Blue John, the banded purple-and-yellow fluorspar found almost nowhere else on earth. A few hundred kilos are still worked out by hand each year for jewellery. Guided tours lead through the lit galleries, up a steepish climb to the entrance.
