Cotswold high street sloping to the Windrush.
Burford’s wide high street runs downhill between honey-coloured houses to a narrow medieval bridge over the Windrush. Long a wool town, it’s now the busy gateway to the Cotswolds, lined with shops and inns and topped by the big wool church of St John the Baptist. The quieter Windrush villages of Swinbrook and Asthall lie just downstream.
