Monks of nearby Bruern Abbey built the Shaven Crown in the 14th century as a hospice for pilgrims and the poor, and its medieval gateway and beamed hall survive around an inner courtyard. It stands opposite the church and green at Shipton-under-Wychwood, now an inn with rooms and a bar. Shipton station is a short walk to the north.
