Weathered granite outcrop with medieval village ruins.
Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
Below the tumbled granite stacks of Hound Tor lie the low walls of a medieval village, abandoned around the fourteenth century, its longhouses and barns still traceable in the turf. The tor itself is a fine scramble of weathered rock on open moor, said to have inspired the hound in Conan Doyle’s Dartmoor novel. It’s a short walk from the car park, and Bowerman’s Nose is close by.
