Classic Dartmoor village with cathedral-like church tower.
Open accessNational Trust land — free to wander
The granite tower of St Pancras church rises around 120 feet over Widecombe’s green, earning it the nickname Cathedral of the Moor; it was built partly on the profits of Dartmoor tin. The village sits in a green hollow ringed by bare tors near the middle of the moor. It gives its name to Widecombe Fair, still held here each September.
