The Marquis of Lorne is a 16th-century country pub in the hamlet of Nettlecombe, tucked below the Iron Age ramparts of Eggardon Hill. It has rooms, open fires and a good-sized garden, and there’s fine walking straight from the door into the West Dorset hills. Remote enough that a car helps; the nearest station is Maiden Newton, about 8km east.
