Beaminster sits in a bowl of green hills in West Dorset, its square of golden stone houses gathered round the church of St Mary and its tall early-16th-century tower. It’s a working small town rather than a showpiece, and a good base for walks over the surrounding hills. Crewkerne is the nearest station, about 8km to the north.
