A remote whitewashed free house on the hillside above the Usk valley, the Goose and Cuckoo pulls local real ales and home-cooked food and keeps a few B&B rooms, long a favourite of ramblers and cyclists in the Bannau Brycheiniog foothills. Work up an appetite on the Usk Valley Walk below, or drop down to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towpath before settling in by the fire.
