St Illtyd’s stands alone on a hilltop above Mamhilad, north of Pontypool, reached by a lane that climbs well clear of the village. Inside are old box pews and a plain, whitewashed feel; outside, the churchyard looks over the Usk valley. It is open to visitors, and the walk up is much of the reward. Pontypool and New Inn station is about 3km south.
