The plain exterior at Llanfair Kilgeddin hides one of the finest Arts and Crafts church interiors in Wales: sixteen sgraffito panels by Heywood Sumner, completed in 1888, scratched through coloured plaster to illustrate the Benedicite. Sumner worked in local scenery — the Usk, the Sugar Loaf, a neighbouring church tower. Saved from demolition by the Friends of Friendless Churches, it is kept open. Abergavenny is about 8km north-west.
