In May 1943 the Lancasters of 617 Squadron flew low practice runs over Eyebrook Reservoir, using it as a stand-in for the Möhne dam before the Dambusters raid on Germany. The reservoir itself was built in 1937–40 to supply the Corby steelworks, below the hamlet of Stoke Dry. These days it’s a quiet spot for fly-fishing and birdwatching, with footpaths along the water. Corby is the nearest station, about 9km to the south-east.
