This was Rosemary Verey’s own garden, made from the 1950s into one of the most influential of the late 20th century — a knot garden, a laburnum walk hung yellow in early summer, and the deep mixed borders she became known for. Verey advised on the planting at Highgrove nearby. The house is now a hotel, so the garden isn’t freely open; visits are by arrangement or occasional open days. Barnsley village sits just off the Cirencester–Bibury road.
