Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
One of the largest Romano-British villas known, Chedworth sits in a wooded side-valley of the Coln, uncovered by chance in 1864 and with the National Trust since 1924. Its fourth-century mosaics survive in place, including a dining-room floor of the four seasons, alongside two heated bath houses and a spring-fed shrine. A modern cover building and walkways let you see the floors close up. Cheltenham Spa station is about 15km north-west.
