Little altered since about 1160, Elkstone’s church is among the best Norman work in Gloucestershire. Over the south door sits a carved tympanum of Christ in Majesty, and the chancel keeps its ribbed Norman vault. Above it, reached by a stair, is a rare columbarium — a dovecote built into the roof space. It stands high on the wold; Cheltenham Spa station is about 10km north.
Full name: St John the Evangelist's Church, Elkstone
