Crowland grew up around Croyland Abbey, founded in the fens where the hermit Guthlac settled about 700; the ruined nave still serves as the parish church. Stranger still is Trinity Bridge, a triangular three-way stone bridge of the 14th century, built where three watercourses once met and now stranded high and dry in the streets. Peterborough is about 12km to the south-west for trains.
