Flag Fen preserves a Bronze Age timber causeway, a long line of oak posts driven into the Peterborough peat over 3,000 years ago and kept waterlogged ever since. The site has a reconstructed roundhouse and a museum of the axes, tools and jewellery dredged from the old mere. Opening is seasonal and ticketed; Peterborough station is close, under a kilometre to the north-west.
