Kipper-smoking harbour, gateway to Dunstanburgh.
Craster is a tiny stone fishing village built around a small harbour, best known for its oak-smoked kippers — Robson’s smokehouse has been curing herring here for four generations. From the harbour, an easy mile or so along the low grassy shore brings you to the gaunt ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Parking is very limited, so use the car park by the visitor centre at the edge of the village. Embleton lies just beyond the castle.
