Grand cascade and famous Poison Garden.
The Alnwick Garden is the Duchess of Northumberland’s big contemporary garden beside the castle, built from the late 1990s around a tumbling Grand Cascade of water. The real pull for most people is the Poison Garden — over a hundred toxic and narcotic plants behind locked gates, seen only on a guided tour — plus a giant treehouse with a café up in the branches. Paid entry, and busy in summer; it’s a short walk from the middle of Alnwick, about 5km from Alnmouth station.
