Alnwick is a handsome market town of limestone townhouses gathered below its great castle — the Percy family seat, and a familiar backdrop from the Harry Potter films. Alongside it, the Alnwick Garden draws crowds to its grand cascade and walled beds, while Barter Books fills the old Victorian station with secondhand shelves and armchairs. Alnmouth station, about 5km east, is the nearest stop on the main line.
