Just north of Arbroath, Seaton Cliffs are a run of red-sandstone cliffs cut into caves, stacks and blowholes by the sea, looked after by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. A cliff-top trail follows the coast past the best of it, with seabirds nesting on the ledges in spring and summer. It’s free, but the path runs close to the edge, so keep dogs and children in hand. Arbroath station is about 3km to the west.
