Arbroath Fisheries is a harbourside smokehouse on the Seagate, turning out traditional Arbroath smokies since 1977. A smokie is a pair of haddock hot-smoked over a hardwood fire until the skin is bronze and the flesh cooked through — a method so tied to the town that it holds protected geographical status. Buy them fresh from the shop, ideally still warm. Arbroath station is a short walk inland, under a kilometre to the north-west.
