A cluster of cottages on the cliff edge north of Arbroath, Auchmithie is where the Arbroath smokie began — fisher families here smoked their haddock long before the trade moved down the coast. A steep path drops to the old pebble beach and harbour below. There’s not much to the place, but it’s a lovely quiet spot, and the coastal path between Arbroath and Lunan Bay runs right through it.
