One of three Nottingham pubs that lay claim to being the city’s oldest, the Bell Inn has stood on the edge of the Old Market Square since the 1430s. Its timber frame has been dated by tree-rings to the 1440s, and below it run sandstone caves first cut by Carmelite friars for brewing and storing ale. Nottingham station is under a kilometre to the south-east.
