City of Caves
Local highlightApproximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
City of Caves is a network of man-made caverns cut into the soft sandstone beneath Nottingham — over 800 are known across the city. The guided route takes in a medieval tannery, said to be the only underground one in Britain, along with pub cellars and a WWII air-raid shelter carved from the rock. Entry is by ticketed tour, staggered to keep groups small. Nottingham station is a few hundred metres south.
