Opened in 1852, the Arboretum was Nottingham’s first public park, laid out by the botanist Samuel Curtis with a tree collection that today runs to more than 800 trees across 65 species. There’s a Grade II listed bandstand from 1907, a Victorian cast-iron aviary, and a war memorial that once held a bell taken during the Second Opium War. It’s free to walk round any day, with a seasonal café for a break. Nottingham Castle and the Robin Hood Way both start a short walk south.
