Highfields Park is Nottingham’s big ornamental park, 21 hectares of lake, lawns and mature trees laid out in the 1920s around the new University of Nottingham campus by the architect Percy Morley Horder. It’s free to walk round any day of the year, with a boating lake open through the summer, an adventure golf course, and the Lakeside Arts Centre on site. Nottingham Castle is a short trip north-east, and Beeston station is about 1.9km south-west.
