Blackburn’s grandest Victorian park opened in 1857 to a crowd of over 60,000, with tree-lined promenades, two ornamental lakes and a Roman-style triumphal arch at the Preston New Road entrance. It’s free to wander any time, with sports pitches, a play area and a garden of remembrance set among formal Italian-style beds. Blackburn station is under 1.5km away, so it’s an easy walk from the town centre.
