Come in February for the snowdrops: a century-old planting carpets the banks at Benington Lordship, alongside hellebores and winter shrubs, and the gardens open daily through the snowdrop weeks. The rest of the year brings long herbaceous borders and an old rose garden. It all sits around a Georgian manor, with the ruins of a Norman keep and its moat, and a neo-Norman folly gatehouse added in 1832. Paid entry on open days; Watton-at-Stone station is about 4km south.
