A Gothic pile of turrets, gargoyles and domes rises from the parkland at Knebworth, the Victorian reworking of a Tudor house by the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Formal gardens laid out in part by Edwin Lutyens sit close to the house, with a wilderness beyond and a dinosaur trail through the woods for children. The park has long hosted big outdoor concerts. Paid admission on open days.
