A deep, wooded Iron Age ditch cut into the ground on the edge of Wheathampstead, thought to have been part of a stronghold of the Catuvellauni, the tribe that dominated this corner of Britain before the Romans arrived. It’s open access and free to wander, though the tree cover means it now reads more as a shady hollow than a clear rampart. Harpenden station is about 5km to the west.
