Ramsgill is a serene little village set around a green at the head of Gouthwaite Reservoir, in the quiet middle of Nidderdale. Its big draw is the Yorke Arms, a former shooting lodge that made its name as one of the north’s celebrated restaurants-with-rooms. The reservoir edge is good for birdwatching. Lofthouse lies further up the dale, Pateley Bridge a few miles down.
