On 14 October 1881 a sudden storm wrecked the fishing fleet off Eyemouth, drowning 189 east-coast fishermen, 129 of them from this one town. The disaster is remembered in the harbour museum and by the “Widows and Bairns” sculpture on the front. Eyemouth is still a working port, good for fresh crab and a wander round the quays. Reston station is about 7km inland.
