You can walk almost the whole circuit of Berwick’s town walls in about an hour, a rare near-complete ring of 16th-century artillery ramparts thrown up to hold off the Scots. The path runs above the rooftops and out along the sea, with wide views over the Tweed estuary. It’s free and open all the time — start from anywhere in Berwick-upon-Tweed, with the station a few minutes’ walk south.
