A conservation village on the far side of Arthur’s Seat, Duddingston sits beside its own loch just a couple of miles from the city centre. The main draw is The Sheep Heid Inn, reckoned to be Scotland’s oldest pub, but there’s also the Norman Duddingston Kirk and Dr Neil’s Garden running down to the water. The loch is a bird reserve, so it’s a quiet, green escape from the Old Town.
