Duddingston Kirk is a 12th-century Norman church beside Duddingston Loch, one of the oldest still in use around Edinburgh. Look for the old kirkyard details: a loupin’-on stane for mounting horses, iron jougs by the gate for punishing wrongdoers, and a little watchtower built to guard against body-snatchers. It’s mostly open for services, with visits otherwise by arrangement. Combine it with Dr Neil’s Garden next door and a walk round the loch.
