Dr Neil’s Garden runs down to the shore of Duddingston Loch, tucked below Arthur’s Seat behind Duddingston Kirk. It was made from rough ground in the 1960s by two doctors, Andrew and Nancy Neil, and is still looked after by volunteers. There are conifers, heathers, physic beds and quiet paths down to the water. Entry is free, though donations are welcome, and it stays wonderfully peaceful given how close it is to the city.
