Reputedly the oldest surviving pub in Scotland, with a licence traced back to 1360, The Sheep Heid Inn sits in the conservation village of Duddingston behind Arthur’s Seat. It’s a proper old coaching inn, and out the back there’s a rare Victorian skittle alley you can still book. A cracking spot to finish a walk over Arthur’s Seat or round Duddingston Loch. About three miles from the centre, so it’s a bus ride or a good stride out.
